A nine or ten year old is in his or her prime. They have figured school out, have some skills and believe they can do any thing. Come middle school, that same kid becomes self conscious and insecure. Girls, especially, stop believing they can do absolutely anything.
How do we support our kids through this time?
Current research shows that developing a GROWTH MINDSET is one of the surest ways. Using the right kind of praise builds children's sense of self efficacy. Just like with adults, kids thrive when they feel they can take on challenges and master them. Parents can use their praise carefully to give them that confidence.
