Should You Pay Your Kids for Good Grades?

Recently in my Middle School Moms Group on Facebook a lively conversation about whether we should pay kids for grades came up.

Here is the gist of what parents who were in favor argued:
•Do whatever it takes to motivate your kids
•Doing so sets a clear expectation that education is valued in the household
•School is your job; we get paid for jobs

Many parents were not in favor of paying their kids with money, but did advocate for celebrating their kids' hard work with treats or outings.

Parents who punish their kids for bad grades mostly do so by taking away electronics or extra-curricular activities (arguing that these are the biggest time sucks/distractions).

What do I think?  I am not in favor of paying kids for good grades (or of punishing them for bad grades.

This was my video response as to WHY not to pay kids for grades and WHAT TO DO INSTEAD.
